Homework due Friday 19th January

We will be learning about the digraph ‘er’ and how it can make two different sounds in Phonics next week.  For example, in her it makes the long ‘er’ sound and in anger it makes the short ‘er’ sound that can sound like an ‘u’.

Spellings this week are therefore:

Long ‘er’ sound: her, herbs, fern, stern, person

Short ‘er’ sound: anger, jumper, teacher, farmer, hunger

Can you put them into sentences once you have learnt them?

Number work:

Practise counting in 10’s.  See how quickly you can get from 0 to 100 accurately and record your time.  Can you beat your time each time you practise?

Our best time is 5 seconds to get from 0 to 100, can you beat this at home?

Good luck!

Homework due Friday 12th January

We are continuing to do our spelling test on Friday.  We will be learning about the digraph ‘ea’ and how it can make two different sounds in Phonics next week.  For example, in bead it makes the long ‘e’ sound and in head it makes the short ‘e’ sound.

Spellings this week are therefore:

Long ‘e’ sound: bead, peach, read, dream, deal

Short ‘e’ sound: head, read, bread, lead, thread

Can you put them into sentences once you have learnt them?

Number work:

Practise counting in 5’s.  See how quickly you can get from 5 to 50 accurately and record your time.  Can you beat your time each time you practise?

(We have even started a leaderboard to see how quickly we can do it!)

Have a lovely weekend.

Year 1 Reading Workshops

Dear parents/carers,

On Monday 8th January, we will be holding reading workshops for parents and carers to give you the opportunity to come in and work with your child one-to-one on this skill. The workshops aim to allow parents to find out exactly how children are learning in class, where work is pitched and how it will progress through school. The workshops will hopefully help you to support your child’s learning at home and give your child an opportunity to show off what they can do.

There will be two workshops on Monday 8th January: one from 9:00am until 10:00am; the other from 5:00pm until 6:00pm. Each will take place in a class in your child’s year group, and you will be directed on the day where to go.

We look forward to seeing you.

Yours faithfully

The Year 1 team
