In maths this week we have been learning about to half shapes, groups of objects and today we were halving numbers. We investigated which numbers could be halved and realised that all even numbers can be shared equally. We used sharing circles and cubes to show what half of a number is. We said this is full sentence: half of 8 is equal to 4.
Well Done to all of Year 1 for their hard work this half term!
There are no spellings over half term but please make sure you are reading every day and writing a comment in your reading diary. You could also practise reading and writing your numbers up to 20.
Our recommended read for this half term is:
If you see this in your local library, have a look! We could not believe how much the caterpillar could eat!
We are looking forward to seeing all the books you have read over the holidays.
The Year 1 Team
Badgers have been working very hard and have filled their class marble jar! This means that on Friday, we will be having a treat day. Children can wear their own clothes and bring in a teddy – we will be having a Goldilocks tea party which we wrote letters about in English when we read the story of The Jolly Postman.
Squirrel class have worked so well as a team that they have filled their marble jar!
They have voted to come into school on Friday 15th February in their own clothes and bring in their favourite teddy. We are going to have a teddy bears picnic. The children will be given fruit, plain biscuits and popcorn to eat, if you have any questions or queries please come and speak to me.

In science we are learning about the current season we are in, Winter. We went outside and explored the changes we have noticed since Autumn. We noticed that the trees are bare, when it snowed we felt it snow was cold and had turns into ice, the buds on the tree started to appear because it has been warm some days, there were twigs on the ground, and the clouds are grey.
On Thursday 7th February Bigfoot company came in to do an E-Safety assembly and workshop. We learnt that when we are online we should always ensure we are surfing ‘respectfully, responsibly and safely’.
Throughout the assembly we identified the best ways to be a SMARTY when online
We we also acted out being ‘aware’ and how to ‘tell’ an adult when we have felt uncomfortable online.
Hedgehogs- I challenge you to remind your adults how you can be SMARTY when online.
